Geological origin

The origin of the rock of the Park is from the Mezozoic era (120 to 200 million years ago). This was the era in which the plates were shifting, volcanic activity was at a high in South America, and the Andean mountains were forming.

The lagoons that are present in the Park date back to the Antropozoic era (1 to 2 million years ago). This was the Era in which the glaciers were formed, the mammoth lived, and man originated and evolved. During the time in which the glaciers melted in the mountains, the valleys and the lagoons were formed in the shape of boxes, or "cajas."
