The city of Cuenca is located to the south of Ecuador, to a height of 2500 m.a.s.l. The city is the cultural and sport capital of the country. It is also Cultural Patrimony of the Humanity by the UNESCO.
Cuenca is considered by Ecuadorians as its more beautiful city. Four rivers cross the city from west to east: Tomebamba, Yanuncay, Machángara and Tarqui. Later on they unite forming Paute river that will end in the Amazons river, the mightiest river in the world.
The Tomebamba river, the most important river is born in the Cajas National Park. It crosses the city practically for the center of the same one, giving place to beautiful landscapes. One of the good known places is “The Ravine.”
The Yanuncay river, the second most important river is born to the south of the Cajas National Park. Around their banks it is common the practice of sports.
The Machángara river, is born to the north of the Cajas National Park. Hydroelectric centrals have been built along the river. It crosses the north area of Cuenca.
The Tarqui river is born to the south of the city. It crosses the cattle area of Tarqui until arriving in Cuenca. It crosses the south area of the city.
